Jasmine K. Hall: RedHat Marketing Communications Specialist

Intro to Mass Communications: Guest Post A

Jasmine Hall was a mid-semester guest speaker invited by Professor Brett E. Chambers to my section of Intro To Mass Communications. The conversation that took place over zoom was very informative and inspiring. Jasmine is a proud North Carolina Central University Alum, who obtained her bachelors degree in Mass Communications; she took many classes with Professor Chambers hence her willingness to divulge her experiences to our class. I related to Jasmine, who discussed how shy she was in college. I often feel like I haven’t made a strong enough impression on my professors, especially with the COVID Pandemic limiting the in person experience my last two years of undergraduate education. But much like Jasmine I have an extremely diligent and hardworking attitude; an attitude that will further my success in my future career.

After graduating with her bachelor’d degree, Ms. Jasmine Hall began working as a Services Marketing Intern for RedHat Inc., a rising multinational software company. Hall described her experience at the company as character building; she came to work everyday and asked what projects she could help finish. Her willingness to ask and volunteer her time led to her being offered a full time position as a Marketing Communications Specialist.

My greatest take away from Jasmine Hall’s guest appearance is that it is okay not to necessarily know what direction you are going in; she described not knowing what she wanted to do but applying for numerous positions, even unpaid ones, that would increase her field experience and teach her which industry best fit her ideal work situation. I am in a crossroads position right now, as I am soon to graduate with my BA in Political Science and I don’t necessarily know what my next step will be; her conversation with our Intro Mass Communications course really eased my anxious mind, because she made it and so will I.
