Honestly, the reason that I enrolled in Intro to Mass Communications was because the elective course Online Music of the World was abruptly cancelled on the first day of spring classes due to low enrollment; I laugh thinking about that situation now. I am projected to graduate in May of this year, needing only fifteen more credit hours to graduate; so the cancellation of Online Music of the World caused me to scramble to find any open class worth three credit hours.
Although my initial reason for enrolling in the class was simply to have enough credit to meet the graduation requirement, I quickly realized I am in Professor Chamber’s Intro to Mass Com class for a greater purpose. Professor Brett E. Chambers is a Duke University graduate with experience in multiple media fields, and he is passionate about teaching his students knowledge that will affect their future career prospects. I have been struggling recently with adjusting from being a student-athlete to finding my niche in this chaotic world. After Professor Chambers’ first lecture, I knew that the cancellation of Online Music of the World was intentional in my life as it created space for my to have the opportunity to absorb the information taught in Intro to Mass Communications.
So I enrolled in Intro to Mass Communications to get the three credit hours that I need to graduate with my B.A. in Political Science. But I am in Intro to Mass Communications to absorb real life knowledge that will help me actualize the career I’ve been dreaming of since I began my undergraduate journey.
